An emotional video of a Ukrainian girl singing in an underground shelter in the capital, Kyiv, has garnered millions of views on social media, according to the British newspaper "Independent." The Ukrainian girl, Amelia, has won the admiration of millions of online followers after a clip of her singing "Let it Go" from the famous Disney movie "Frozen" went viral while she was in a shelter in Kyiv.
A woman who visited the shelter to help decorate it last week shared the video on Facebook after Amelia told her that she wanted to sing "on a big stage" in front of an audience. Marta Smikova said that her family and those present in the shelter encouraged Amelia to sing, with the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag visible behind the girl as she performed the song, which was followed by enthusiastic applause.
Actress Idina Menzel (who played Elsa, the character who sings the song in Frozen) tweeted after watching the touching clip: "We see you. We really see you."
Amelia is among the millions of Ukrainians who have remained in the country amid the ongoing Russian invasion, while more than 1.7 million people have fled. Smikova noted, "Everyone put their work aside and listened to the girl sing, who was just shining light," adding, "Even the men couldn't hold back their tears."
She stated that the video was filmed and shared with the girl's mother's permission, and it was later broadcast by news stations across Europe and the United States. Smikova expressed her happiness for its global reach, saying: "Amelia, my darling... you are our Ukrainian star."
