People have used social media as a news source for years, and Snapchat is looking to maximize this reality, according to Axios reports. Snapchat has launched a feature for dynamic stories that enables media outlets to automatically share news articles as stories on the Discover platform through existing RSS feeds. There is no need for a specialist to create a tailor-made version for the app, allowing them to keep up with urgent global events (or popular newspapers) even when they aren't publishing their own content.
The original partners include a range of major publications from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and India, including The Washington Post, The Independent, Le Figaro, and Vogue India. The format does not support video, but a participant in the test mentioned it could in the future. According to Axios sources, this is not a direct source of revenue for Snapchat; however, that is not the main point. This gives publishers a stronger incentive to share news on Snapchat by reducing friction. Most importantly, it may keep users glued to Snapchat—making them less likely to switch to Instagram or TikTok if they receive news faster on Snap.
