Russian star Alexandra Trusova broke down in tears after the conclusion of the figure skating competition at the Olympics held in Beijing, settling for a silver medal. The 17-year-old Trusova delivered an impressive performance in the free program on Thursday, managing to break her personal best at the Winter Olympics with a total of 251.73 points in both the short and free programs, while her previous personal best was 241.02 points. Despite this personal achievement, Trusova finished only in second place in the skating competition, behind her compatriot Anna Shcherbakova, who scored 255.95 points in total after a spectacular performance. The bronze medal went to Japan's Kaori Sakamoto, who scored 233.13 points.
Trusova could not contain her emotions after the ice skating competition, entering a fit of crying and stating, "I hate this sport! I won’t go to the awards ceremony, I don’t want to, I won’t go! I will never skate again! Everyone has a gold medal, but I didn’t get one."
According to "Russia Today," in a subsequent press conference, Trusova explained her feelings by saying, "I just wanted to cry and cry. I spent three weeks (in Beijing) without my mother." It’s worth noting that Trusova has previously won a bronze medal at the World Figure Skating Championships and has two bronze medals from the European Championships.
