At the beginning of 2021, British man Mike Senior tested positive for the coronavirus, and that result was only the start of a "hellish journey," as he describes it. According to a report by Sky News, Mike shares details of his ordeal that led him into a coma, from which he awoke after a long period, only to discover that his wife had passed away.
He recounts, "It was a weekend when I had taken my daughter from Scotland to the port of Ellesmere in Cheshire, northwest England." He continues, "When COVID took over, my wife called an ambulance; all I remember is being in the hospital." He adds, "That was my last memory before entering the intensive care unit for three weeks."
During that time, his wife's health, who had also contracted the virus, deteriorated rapidly. She struggled to breathe but ultimately passed away. The husband was unaware of the tragedy until he awoke from the coma he had fallen into.
Mike states that he suffered a stroke when doctors attempted to bring him out of the coma, which meant he had to stay in the hospital longer. Once his condition improved a bit, the doctors informed him of his wife's death and that a funeral had been held for her.
He spent six months in the hospital, suffering from impairments in movement, speech, and memory. Despite being told about his wife's death multiple times, his short-term memory issues meant he could not retain the information for long, requiring medical teams to remind him repeatedly until he grasped it. Rehabilitation physician Daniel Street noted, "It was extremely difficult for him; we had to reinforce the information."
When Mike returned home for the first time, he wandered his house, opening cupboards and seeing items that reminded him of his wife. Street added, "It was a devastating experience that changed his life. His life was completely shattered within days" after he began to regain his memory.
The situation did not end there, as authorities transferred the man's daughters to a care home after the house was emptied; the mother had died and the father was in the hospital. They said they had experienced a tough time.
