Increase in COVID-19 Infections: Health Ministry Warns and Reminds of the Need for Vaccination

The Ministry of Public Health announced in its daily report that "836 new COVID-19 infections have been recorded, raising the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 1,107,602, with two recorded deaths."

The executive committee for the COVID-19 vaccine from the Ministry of Public Health issued the following statement:

"We are facing a new wave of the coronavirus, expected to be more contagious and spread faster, as indicated by the rising infection numbers in Lebanon, similar to other countries around the world, where there has been a concerning spike in infections over a short period. Accordingly, the executive committee for the COVID-19 vaccine held an emergency meeting to discuss the latest epidemiological updates, resulting in the following recommendations:

- The executive committee emphasizes the necessity of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible, especially since the vaccination rate remains low at just under 45%. The vaccine can be obtained for free, regardless of whether it is the first, second, third, or fourth dose, at any of the vaccination centers distributed throughout Lebanon, without prior appointment during the week.

- The executive committee reminds everyone that all scientific studies and reports issued by the World Health Organization conclude that the vaccine protects against complications from the virus, prevents hospitalization, and reduces mortality rates.

In conclusion, the executive committee reiterates the criteria adopted by the Ministry of Health for receiving vaccine doses:

1. The first dose is available to everyone over the age of five.

2. The second dose is available to everyone who has received the first dose three weeks prior.

3. The third dose is available to everyone who has received the second dose five months prior.

4. The fourth dose is available to everyone who has received the third dose six months prior."
