British media reports have confirmed that Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, may compromise and reduce his financial demands in order to remain with the Reds. Contract renewal negotiations had been stalled between Salah and his agent Ramy Abbas on one side, and Liverpool management on the other, since last December, according to the latest media reports.
Most reports coming from Britain suggest that Salah is insisting on a weekly salary of £500,000 in his new contract, similar to other players in the Premier League, which the club currently cannot afford. Mohamed Salah currently leads the Premier League's top scorers list with 20 goals, at least 7 goals ahead of any other player. His contract with Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2023.
However, the "Football Insider" network has indicated that there has been a significant shift in the negotiations between Salah and Liverpool in recent times. The network added that Liverpool officials believe Salah will relent and lower his financial demands in his new contract, but it also emphasized that the player will sign a "massive contract" with the club before next summer.
Previous media reports stated that Liverpool was ready to make Salah the highest-paid player in the team, but this did not satisfy Ramy Abbas's financial ambitions, as he compares his player's salary to those of stars in the Premier League, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The network clarified that Liverpool officials' confidence stems from the limited options available to Salah if he chooses not to renew his contract with the Reds and leave, especially amid the financial crisis facing Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, in addition to Chelsea’s situation following the exclusion of its Russian owner Roman Abramovich, while Manchester United seems out of the picture.
The duo of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City remain the only clubs capable of signing Salah should he depart from Liverpool. European giants are eager to recruit Salah, who has established himself as one of the world's stars this season, scoring 28 goals in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
On another note, former Scottish player Ally McCoist has claimed that it is possible for Salah to leave his club due to financial obstacles and disagreements over contract renewal. McCoist stated in remarks to the English network "Team Talk": "Clearly, it is a very complicated situation, and Mohamed Salah is likely to leave Liverpool."
He added, "It seems that Salah has put Liverpool in a bind; they haven’t been able to exceed the wage ceiling to avoid causing disruption and division within the team." He further questioned, "How much would it cost Liverpool to sign a player to replace Mohamed Salah? That’s a question, and if Salah gets what he wants, will three or four players knock on the door for a wage increase?"
McCoist concluded his remarks by stating: "Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool currently have a balancing act."
