Response from the Head of Doctors Regarding Monkeypox Rumor: This Doctor is Unregistered!

The head of the Doctors' Syndicate in Lebanon, Sharaf Abu Sharaf, responded today, Tuesday, to statements made by Dr. Mohamed Fahmi Khroub during an interview on (Al-Jadeed channel) regarding the existence of two cases of monkeypox in Lebanon. Abu Sharaf confirmed in a statement that "there are currently no cases of monkeypox in Lebanon," denying "what the doctor reported, which was based on erroneous information."

He noted that "the syndicate attempted to contact the mentioned doctor to clarify the information he provided on the subject, but it turned out that he relied solely on media sources to disseminate what he had." Abu Sharaf revealed that "this doctor is not registered with the syndicate, and therefore does not have the right to work in Lebanon," urging "all media outlets to host only official specialists from the Doctors' Syndicate or the Ministry of Public Health to discuss this topic, as the ministry has all the relevant information and updates on it. It is their responsibility to disseminate this information and raise awareness regarding preventive measures and protocols in collaboration with the syndicate."

He asked all doctors "not to speak on the subject without prior permission from the syndicate, otherwise they will face disciplinary action." Abu Sharaf concluded by stating, "All individuals born before 1977 have received the smallpox vaccine and are therefore immune. Preventive measures include not approaching the infected individual as a priority, in addition to handwashing," calling for calm and urging against fear and panic, as this monkeypox is very different from the coronavirus.
