Al-Kadhimi Tightens the Noose on the Popular Mobilization Forces

Under the title "Al-Kadhimi Tightens the Noose on the Popular Mobilization Forces... Monitoring Measures," Al-Arabiya reported that in steps aimed at neutralizing illegal activities, Iraqi military sources confirmed that the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has imposed measures that include monitoring the activities of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) within military bases. It was revealed that among these measures is the prohibition of using military bases for illegal activities, such as targeting military bases and diplomatic missions.

The sources clarified that these regulations, which have become evident in most military sectors, are moving towards neutralizing illegal activities, according to a report by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

#### Dispute among Officers

Also, the information attributed these measures to intense disputes that escalated to physical confrontations between Iraqi officers at a military airbase and a prominent brigade of the PMF north of Baghdad, following the launch of explosive drones. The sources noted that the PMF had changed its strategy by repositioning to new sites on the outskirts of cities and near the borders to avoid airstrikes.

#### State versus Non-State

It is noteworthy that Al-Kadhimi emphasized that Iraqi forces, security officials, and the government have demonstrated the logic of the state against that of non-state actors. This was in reference to the military display witnessed in the Green Zone in central Baghdad at the end of last month by armed members of the PMF. At that time, he observed that there were attempts to drag the government into the unknown, but it dealt with the situation wisely, upholding state authority and implementing law enforcement mechanisms based on constitutional principles.

This came after armed groups from the militias and factions affiliated with the PMF attempted to storm the Green Zone at the end of last month, showcasing their weapons, before security forces intervened and took control of the capital and its entrances, in protest against the arrest of the PMF operations commander in Anbar, Qasim Muslih, after he was accused of involvement in the kidnapping and assassination of activists in Karbala.
