Pope Francis renewed his belief that "the meeting of diverse religious traditions in Lebanon, which come together and unite, can be a true testimony to the entire world." This statement from the Holy Father was made in a letter sent to President Michel Aoun in response to a greeting message he had previously sent for Easter. The papal message read: "The joy of the Resurrection comes from the wonder that surrounds us at the ultimate victory of life over death and the triumph of light over darkness. From this hope, we find our source of commitment to serving peace and reconciliation. Therefore, I rain down upon you blessings and grant you my apostolic blessing, you, your wife, and the entire Lebanese people."
Additionally, President Aoun held diplomatic and political meetings, starting with an audience with French Ambassador Anne Grillo, accompanied by the political advisor at the embassy, Jean Hilbronn. They discussed Lebanese-French relations and ways to develop them in all fields. Ambassador Grillo reiterated French President Emmanuel Macron's confirmation of "France's continued support for Lebanon, especially in the current circumstances." The discussions also covered internal conditions, the post-election phase, and upcoming constitutional entitlements. They talked about French aid to Lebanon, the latest being a delivery of buses for public transport received yesterday at the Port of Beirut. President Aoun also shared his position on internal developments and the anticipated challenges on multiple fronts.
Diplomatically, President Aoun received Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Ostash, accompanied by the third secretary at the embassy, Dmytro Reznychenko. Ostash briefed President Aoun on "recent developments in Ukraine," appreciating "Lebanon's position in international forums regarding what is happening in his country," and expressed "Ukraine's readiness to supply Lebanon with its wheat needs."
Politically, President Aoun met with MP Dr. Fares Boustan, representing the Chouf-Aley district, to discuss the general situation and the post-election phase. The conversation also addressed the work of the "Fares Boustan Foundation" in social and humanitarian fields.
Moreover, President Aoun received a delegation from the "SOS Chrétiens d'Orient" Foundation, led by Charles de Meyer and included members Arthur Lanternier, Philippe Chevallier Chantepie, and Karen Achkouty. The delegation members thanked the President for "the support provided by the Lebanese state to the foundation" and presented an overview of their major humanitarian, social, health, and educational activities in Lebanon and their work program for the coming months. President Aoun expressed his appreciation for the foundation's contributions "in various fields and the comprehensive coverage of its work across all Lebanese regions."
