U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is not worried about the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which concerns the possibility of his removal from office.
President Trump confirmed that he is not anxious about the 25th Amendment, which allows for his removal, in the context of the Democratic push in Congress following the Capitol riot by his supporters. In a speech from the U.S.-Mexico border wall, a symbol of Trump's strict immigration policy, he stated, "The 25th Amendment poses no risk to me." Trump emphasized that freedom of speech is under serious attack and called the impeachment scheme significant, warning that it threatens divisions in the United States. He asserted that "Americans' right to express themselves is under threat," declaring that "it is time for our nation to heal, and it is time for peace and quiet and respect for law enforcement."
White House spokesman Judd Deere stated that Trump's visit to the wall signifies that he has indeed kept a promise as part of his administration's efforts to reform the dysfunctional immigration system. Reuters reported, citing an official, that the FBI has received information about planned armed protests at government buildings in all 50 U.S. states as the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden approaches.
Additionally, ABC News reported that a memo from the FBI indicates "armed protests are planned at Capitol buildings in all 50 states starting January 16 through at least January 20," as well as at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., where Congress is located, from January 17 to January 20. Furthermore, the memo warns of an armed group planning to head to Washington on January 16 if Congress attempts to remove President Trump under the 25th Amendment, with the group threatening a "massive uprising" if such an event occurs.
