U.S. President Joe Biden announced that he has requested intelligence agencies to intensify their efforts to gather and analyze information that could lead to a definitive conclusion about the origin of the coronavirus within 90 days. In a statement, Biden said: "I have now asked the intelligence community to double their efforts to gather and analyze information that could bring us closer to a definitive conclusion about the origin of the coronavirus and to provide me with a report within 90 days."
He added: "Shortly after taking office, in March, I tasked my national security advisor with preparing a report on the latest analyses from the intelligence community regarding the origins of the virus, including whether it originated from human contact with an infected animal or from an incident at a lab." He continued: "The intelligence community leans toward two scenarios regarding the virus's origin (whether it is a result of human contact with an infected animal or an incident in a laboratory), but it has not yet reached a definitive conclusion on this matter."
He noted that he has "requested specific questions to be posed to China and has asked the intelligence community to keep Congress fully informed of its work." He added: "The United States will continue to work with partners around the world to pressure China to participate in a full, transparent, and evidence-based international investigation to provide access to all data and evidence regarding the origins of the virus."
