Saudi Defenses Destroy Fifth Explosive Drone Launched by Houthis

Saudi defenses intercepted and destroyed a fifth explosive drone launched by Houthi militias towards Khamis Mushait early Friday. Earlier on Thursday evening, Saudi defenses had already destroyed a fourth explosive drone aimed at the Kingdom. The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen confirmed that the efficiency of the Saudi armed forces thwarted four drones and one ballistic missile on Thursday. Earlier that Thursday, Saudi defenses destroyed three explosive drones launched by the Houthi militias towards the Kingdom and also intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile aimed at Jazan.

The Coalition stated that there is an intentional Houthi escalation targeting the security of the Kingdom with cross-border hostile attacks, adding that the efficiency of Saudi air defenses has thwarted all reckless attempts by the Houthi militias. The Coalition noted they are monitoring Houthi hostile activity and would take appropriate operational measures to protect civilians and civilian structures.

This comes after the Coalition Command showcased footage documenting the destruction of two explosive boats belonging to the Houthi militias on Monday evening in the Al-Salif area in Hodeidah province, Yemen. The Coalition explained that the operation was conducted after intelligence monitoring and before an imminent attack by the Houthi militias aimed at disrupting maritime navigation and global trade in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the southern Red Sea.

On the previous Thursday, Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi emphasized the importance of putting an end to the threats posed by Houthi militias to the security of the Red Sea and the safety of international navigation. Hadi also called for countering those violations committed by the Iranian-backed militias, whether through the random laying of naval mines, attacking ships with drone boats, or striking cities and ports, including the recent catastrophe of attacking the port of Al-Mokha.

This was discussed during his meeting with the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, where both parties talked about the prospects for a political solution and the approach that should be taken to achieve a lasting and just peace in Yemen.
