Fadi Abushamat, the Director of Strategy and Planning at Oppo Middle East, stated that the UAE markets recorded a general growth rate in smartphone sales of 29.7% during the current year, according to reports from the research firm GfK. He mentioned in statements to "Emirates Today" that the UAE markets were among the fastest to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on sales growth rates and shipments of mobile phones to local markets reported by GfK. The report revealed that the country's markets recorded sales of 4.5 million smartphone units during the first 10 months of the current year, with rates approaching those of the pre-pandemic years.
Abushamat added that, according to market data, smartphones supporting fifth-generation technologies accounted for 29% of the total number of units sold since the beginning of the year, while they made up 65% of the total value of smartphone sales in the country, particularly for high and mid-range price categories compared to fourth-generation phones.
He explained that, based on current market indicators, smartphone sales in the country are expected to continue growing in the next year, especially with the ongoing events of Expo 2020 Dubai and the recovery of tourism in the UAE. He also noted that the company unveiled a foldable phone named "Find N," which supports fifth-generation technologies and operates using innovative technologies.
