While Jürgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, expressed optimism regarding Mohamed Salah signing a new contract with the Premier League club, stating that contract negotiations are not a cause for concern, the Daily Telegraph reported that the club has rejected Salah's financial requests, leaving room for the Egyptian star to leave Anfield. Klopp said, "I am very optimistic about this matter, but I don't think it's reasonable to speak on behalf of the fans because I'm sure the fans are not as anxious as you are. They have known the club for a long time and know the people handling various matters here for a very long time, so I think there are enough reasons to be positive. But as long as it hasn't happened, we can't say anything about it." He added, "But good talks, and that's what I can say."
The Daily Telegraph mentioned that Liverpool delivered a blow to the Pharaoh, who is currently in Cameroon with the Egyptian national team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, regarding his financial demands for renewing his contract with the "Reds," especially since his contract expires in June 2023. The report stated that Liverpool rejected Salah's financial requests, which he hopes to achieve in his new contract with the team. It clarified that Salah has tried in every way to persuade Liverpool to pay the salary he believes he deserves, but the English club has declined, noting that Salah's age is one of the reasons, especially since "Mo" is 29 years old and is just a few months away from turning 30.
The newspaper also added that Liverpool is not prepared to meet Salah's financial demands for renewing his contract, thereby giving him the green light to leave the club if he wishes, as the policy of the Reds' management applies to all players. Mohamed Salah had expressed his desire to renew his contract with Liverpool on the condition of receiving a weekly salary of £500,000 upon signing the new contract, which has not been welcomed by the club's officials. Currently, Mohamed Salah receives a weekly salary of £200,000 at Liverpool, making him the second highest paid player at the club after Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, who earns £220,000.
