It seems that suspension decisions and bans from singing have become common in the Egyptian Musicians’ Syndicate these days, after the syndicate officially announced the suspension of singer Omar Kamal. On Tuesday evening, the syndicate issued a statement announcing the suspension of the artist known for the song "Bent El Geran" and his referral for investigation. Regarding the reason, the syndicate simply indicated that this came due to what the singer expressed on the social media platform "Facebook."
The syndicate's decision, which was conveyed in a single line, did not clarify the incident that led to Omar Kamal’s suspension. However, the singer has been involved in several disputes on social media through multiple live broadcasts in recent days. He also clashed with some individuals and appeared agitated while boasting about his trip to the United States and his recent artistic activities.
It appears that the singer, who gained fame through the popular festivals he presented, has gotten used to suspension decisions as this is the third time he has faced suspension and referral for investigation. The first incident occurred due to the song "Bent El Geran," which contained lyrics deemed inappropriate by the syndicate. The second suspension happened about a month ago when he performed a concert and altered the lyrics of his famous song, which again angered the syndicate.
So far, Kamal has not commented on the decision issued by the Musicians’ Syndicate regarding his suspension, nor has he justified his actions in recent days or the state of agitation he exhibited. The Musicians’ Syndicate issued a statement rejecting any excess or insult towards artistic symbols which it described as having impacted the history of Egyptian music and having coexisted with great artists, remaining a symbol of dedication and giving, like artist Hani Shakir, the head of the Musicians’ Syndicate. They expressed their rejection of any derogatory comments directed at Hani Shakir, condemning any Egyptian singer appearing on social media inappropriately and expressing words with suggestive and immoral implications that undermine the value and dignity of the Egyptian artist and offend public decency.
