Starting August 1: Notice to Lebanese Traders

A number of Lebanese traders have recently been informed by European factories that the amount of money they are required to pay as part of the import costs will increase starting August 1. This change is due to the impact of the gas crisis on factory operations in Europe during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to information from a group of traders who transfer hundreds of thousands of dollars abroad for imports, prices are expected to rise in the coming period due to all the increases that have occurred, both in the value of imports and in port fees, which have also become charged in dollars.

The traders believe that the increasing pressure on gas could lead to a new global crisis, primarily based on rising external transportation costs, and that this may significantly impact small importers who lack the financial capacity to manage their affairs amidst the ongoing crisis in Lebanon.
