Instead of being celebrated at his wedding, a young man was mourned as his body was laid to rest, leaving the hearts of his family and community shattered. This incident occurred on Al-Worsha Street in the Al-Marj area, northern Cairo, where a young man was killed 20 days before his wedding by the owner of a furniture showroom from whom he intended to purchase items for his marriage.
After a year-long engagement, 25-year-old Mohamed El-Sharqawi, a tour guide, decided to unite with his beloved, who works as an Arabic teacher, and set a wedding date with her family. In the months leading up to the wedding, the young man visited various furniture stores to select and purchase new furnishings for their home. He ultimately agreed with one store owner to custom-make the furniture rather than buy it off the shelf.
The two agreed that the groom would pay a portion of the total cost upfront, with the remainder to be settled upon delivery. When the scheduled delivery date arrived, Mohamed was shocked to find that the seller had sold the agreed-upon items to someone else and asked him to wait longer — an impossible request given the looming wedding date.
A verbal altercation ensued between the groom and the furniture seller. When the victim demanded a refund of his deposit, the seller refused, leading to a physical confrontation. At this point, the victim called his younger brother, Yusuf, for help.
Upon arrival, Yusuf was taken aback to see the showroom owner and several employees assaulting his brother. He engaged with the seller, who then pulled out a firearm and shot several times at both the victim and his brother. The groom was shot in the chest, which resulted in his immediate death, and Yusuf was hit in the leg.
When their father arrived, he found his eldest son dead and the younger one bleeding. He called the police, who managed to apprehend the perpetrators and referred them to the prosecution, which ordered their detention pending further investigation.
Ali Mas'ad, a friend of the deceased groom, shared the details with Sky News Arabia, adding that Yusuf is currently receiving treatment in the hospital and is still unaware of his brother's death. Mas'ad noted, "Mohamed was fluent in English, Hebrew, French, and Chinese," highlighting that the victim was a peaceful and well-mannered person committed to prayer. Tearfully, he stated, "The bullet that struck Mohamed's chest didn't only hit him; it affected the entire community, casting a shadow of sadness over everyone due to the tragic end of an innocent young man just days before his wedding."
