US Warns Against Any "Foreign Intervention" in Sudan

US Warns Against Any

The United States condemned the failed coup attempt in Sudan, calling it "anti-democratic," and warned against any "foreign intervention aimed at spreading disinformation and undermining the will of the Sudanese people." U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price tweeted on Wednesday: "We condemn the failed attempt to seize power from the transitional government and disrupt the historic democratic transition in Sudan," according to AFP. He added that "the U.S. government supports the Sudanese people on their path to democracy, peace, and prosperity."

**Holding All Involved Accountable**

Price also accompanied his tweet with a statement saying that "the United States denounces the failed attempt by rogue military and civilian actors to seize power" in Sudan and urges the transitional government to "hold all involved accountable through a fair judicial process." He emphasized that "anti-democratic acts like those that occurred on September 21 in Khartoum undermine the Sudanese people's aspirations for freedom and justice and put international support for Sudan, including its bilateral relations with the United States, at risk." He also affirmed his country's condemnation of any foreign intervention aimed at undermining the will of the Sudanese people.

**Arrest of Those Involved**

It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army announced earlier on Tuesday the thwarting of a coup attempt to control power in the country. The armed forces stated in a statement broadcast on state television that they had foiled a coup attempt by a group of officers affiliated with the former regime, and the security situation has since stabilized after regaining all sites the coup plotters tried to seize and arresting those involved.

For his part, the government spokesperson and Minister of Culture and Information Hamza Beloul stated that the coup perpetrators are a group from the army linked to the previous regime, indicating that the coup plot aimed to turn back the clock.

Additionally, the Sovereignty Council mentioned in a statement yesterday that the coup attempt was led by Major General Abdel-Baqi Hassan Othman (Bakrawi) along with 22 officers of various ranks, along with several non-commissioned officers and soldiers.
