# Jordan: Outrage After a Young Woman Dies Following a Minor Surgery

The death of a woman during a surgical operation in Jordan has sparked a wave of anger and sympathy for her family after it was announced that she died as a result of a medical error. Social media users in Jordan expressed their outrage over the incident, demanding penalties for those responsible and showing support for her husband and children. According to her family, Raneem was admitted to the hospital for a "cleaning procedure after the death of her fetus," but she passed away despite the surgery being considered minor. The body was transferred to forensic medicine, and the public prosecutor opened an investigation to determine the cause of death and hold those at fault legally accountable.

Mohammad Abu Masmeh, Raneem's husband, told Sky News Arabia that he has been married for about 10 years and they have three children, adding that his wife was five months pregnant when the fetus died. He stated that his wife consulted a doctor who decided to perform a simple surgical procedure on her. After the operation, the doctor informed them that she could leave the hospital, but the nurses told them that she needed to remain under observation. He continued, explaining that his wife was then transferred to the intensive care unit, and after a few hours, the doctor informed them that tests indicated internal bleeding and that she needed a second surgery.

Hours later, the doctor came out of the operating room to say she was in good health and would be monitored until morning. Abu Masmeh noted that at 9:00 AM the following day, his wife had died, and when he requested the hospital to specify the cause of death, they could not provide one, which led him to demand an autopsy. According to the husband, the forensic report indicated that the cause of death was "the doctor's failure to remove the remnants of the fetus from the wife's body," prompting him to seek accountability for those responsible for his wife's death.

Dr. Wasfi Al-Rushdan, the director of the private hospital where the death occurred, told Sky News Arabia that nothing is more important than human life. Regarding the death, Al-Rushdan stated that the patient came with her family for surgery coordinated with a private doctor, and the hospital's role was limited to providing all necessary requirements for the operation according to established medical protocols. According to the hospital director, the patient suffered complications after the surgery, and the hospital summoned a consultant in obstetrics and gynecology, who examined her. Following that, the patient was re-admitted to the operating room, where she died.

He confirmed that the hospital management had undertaken all required medical and legal procedures, and that they were awaiting results after referring the case to forensic medicine to determine the cause of death, clarify responsibilities, and take legal action to uncover the full truth for everyone. He added that if any negligence was proven from any party within the hospital, they would be punished according to the law.
