Twitter is working on a new accessibility feature that will help users better understand the content of images. This feature will use alternative text descriptions provided by users when sharing an image on the platform.
This move was announced by the accessibility team at Twitter in an official post, confirming the rollout of two features for Twitter on Android, iOS, and the web. If you have access to these features, a black rectangle with the letters A L T will appear on images with a description. This is also known as alternative text.
With the new feature, users will see an option in the lower right corner of the screen. By clicking on it, users can view the image description. Adding image descriptions allows blind and visually impaired individuals, as well as those in low-bandwidth areas or with cognitive disabilities, to engage on Twitter.
**How to Add Alternative Text or Image Description on Twitter:**
1. In the Twitter app, select the image you want to share.
2. After selecting the image, tap the + ALT icon in the lower right corner of the image.
3. Write your image description. It is worth noting that descriptions can be up to 1000 characters.
4. Tap Done in the upper right corner of the screen.
5. Share the tweet when you are ready.
According to reports, Twitter is also working on adding a "Leave this conversation" button, which will allow users to exit a Twitter thread. For those who don't know, a Twitter thread is a series of connected conversations that begin when someone replies to a tweet.
