Oil Facilities Management Clarifies... The Discussed Materials are

The General Directorate of Oil and the Oil Facilities Management in Tripoli and Zahrani reported that a recorded video is being circulated on some social media platforms regarding 75 containers containing hazardous materials stored at the oil facilities in Tripoli. Accordingly, the General Directorate of Oil finds it important to clarify the following to the public:

First: In implementation of the directives from the Council of Ministers, the General Directorate of Oil has conducted a field survey of all its facilities, not just in Tripoli, in collaboration with the Engineering Corps of the Lebanese Army to assess all the materials that have been stored for decades, including those suspected of being hazardous. These materials have been sorted, cataloged, and classified according to the priority for their scientific, objective, and environmentally sound disposal.

Second: The General Directorate of Oil initiated direct communication with the German company Combi Lift, tasked with transporting the materials from the port, which in turn inspected, cataloged, and classified the materials in preparation for their removal and disposal.

Third: All the materials in question are very old and are classified as dilapidated materials that need to be disposed of; they do not have explosive specifications as is being promoted.

Fourth: The Ministry of Energy and Water is diligently and swiftly working on the removal of all materials within the permissible frameworks and according to the applicable laws.

Fifth: The General Directorate of Oil urges everyone to be cautious and accurate when disseminating any incorrect information and to always obtain accurate information from its true source directly, and not to succumb to misinformation for the sake of the citizens' circumstances.
