Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid clashed with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Twitter after the latter stated that "Zionism has no place in the future of the world." The exchange began when Lapid responded in a television interview to a question about whether Israel could strike uranium enrichment facilities or weapon sites in Iran, stating that "Israel has capabilities, some of which the world cannot even imagine," emphasizing that Tel Aviv "will protect itself from the Iranian threat."
In response, Abdollahian described Lapid’s remarks as "disturbing" in a tweet, arguing that they were "just a false dream from a fake Israeli regime against the great Iranian nation." He wrote: "We will defend the rights, interests, and progress of the Iranian people vigorously and rationally," adding that "there is no place for Zionism in the future world."
For his part, Lapid replied to Abdollahian's tweet in Hebrew, English, and Persian, writing: "The extremist Iranian regime threatens Israel with annihilation but will continue to lose this battle," adding that "their failed leadership is destroying Iran from within. Iranians should know that their regime is what makes their lives miserable. The State of Israel is strong and will not allow its citizens to be harmed."
