There is no doubt that what you consume in terms of food and beverages is fundamental to either enjoying good health or suffering from various diseases, as good eating acts as a barrier against chronic illnesses like heart disease and cancer. In this regard, the importance of water stands out as one of the healthiest drinks on this planet, according to the latest studies and research.

According to a study published in the journal "Earth Environmental Science," reported by the "Express" newspaper, drinking water has a significant impact on human health, as it is an important source of essential nutrients necessary for human well-being. The study states that "trace elements (found in water) cannot be produced by the human body itself and must be obtained from the natural environment. Water is a primary source of trace elements necessary for the growth of living organisms. The composition of trace elements in water has a significant effect on human health. Changes in drinking water and groundwater sources can lead to significant changes in health risks associated with trace elements."

The study concluded that the high quality of drinking water is a crucial factor in protecting individuals from many diseases. When the body suffers from flu or any other type of virus, there are common symptoms that can lead to dehydration, including fever, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting, as well as loss of appetite. Proper hydration helps the skin and mucous membrane cells to function as a barrier against bacteria entering the body. Proper hydration also reduces nasal irritation when coughing, sneezing, and even breathing.

Severe dehydration leads to the constriction of blood vessels in the brain, and when there aren't enough fluid levels in the brain, this impacts memory. Dehydration is also known to increase blood pressure and the risk of heart disease. This is because the heart has to work harder when there is a reduced amount of water in the blood.

The study quoted nutritionist Juliette Kilo and nutritionist Dr. Sarah Brewer, who stated that everyone needs to drink a different amount of water. Your daily requirements depend on your weight, age, gender, activity level, and the climate you live in. However, women should drink about two liters of water daily, while men should drink two and a half liters.

During a normal day, a person loses around two liters of water just through breathing, sweating, and other bodily functions. Even while sleeping, we can lose more than a kilogram of water weight not only through sweating but also through breathing. Even air conditioning has dehydrating effects on our bodies.

Other benefits of drinking water for an individual's health include:

• Reducing feelings of fatigue during the day

• Improving memory

• Nourishing the skin

• Enhancing digestion

• Aiding in nutrient absorption and chemical reactions

• Removing toxins from the body

• Regulating the body's cooling mechanism.
