British Child Eats Carpets and Household Furniture

A young British boy suffers from a rare disorder that makes him eat a wide range of non-food items, such as paper, books, diapers, and furniture. William Buckley, who is four years old, has been consuming non-food materials since he was two. His mother, Mary Buckley, 32, from Hull, East Yorkshire, shared the challenges she faces in managing her son William's eating disorder, as she has to remove soft toys and books from his room and do her best to distract him from his urge to eat during the day.

The doctor overseeing William stated that his condition attracts him to consume items that have no nutritional value, which poses health risks if not closely monitored. The child's mother finds it particularly difficult to control his condition, especially when he wakes up at night while she is asleep, and he resorts to eating paper or anything he finds in his path.

The mother also complained that her child damages the household furniture, having recently chewed part of the sofa cover, which needed to be replaced. Additionally, William consumes carpet fibers, soft toys, the rain cover on his stroller, and any form of fluff or hair. Currently, William is still in preschool and is awaiting placement in a suitable school for his needs, as he also suffers from autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, and sensory processing disorder.

His mother hopes to raise awareness about his conditions and share her daily struggles with her child, according to the website "Metro."
