Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Brazilian side Palmeiras 2-1 in the final held today, Saturday, at the "Mohammed bin Zayed" Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Chelsea took the lead through their Belgian star Romelu Lukaku in the 55th minute, before Palmeiras equalized with a successfully executed penalty by Raphael Veiga in the 64th minute. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leading both teams to extra time. In the 12th minute of the second half of extra time, Chelsea scored the decisive goal (2-1) from a penalty taken successfully by German Kai Havertz.
Chelsea claimed the title of World Club champions for the first time in its history, having previously lost the final in 2012 to Brazilian team Corinthians 1-0. Meanwhile, Palmeiras failed to win the title in its second appearance, having finished fourth in last year's edition after losing to Egyptian club Al Ahly on penalties.
Chelsea is the third English club to win the Club World Cup, following Manchester United in 2008 and Liverpool in 2019. Chelsea reached the final after defeating Saudi Arabian champions Al Hilal 1-0, while Palmeiras overcame African champions Al Ahly 2-0. Notably, Egyptian club Al Ahly secured third place in the tournament after beating Al Hilal 4-0 in a match earlier today at the "Al Nahyan" Stadium at Al Wahda Club.
