A wide outrage has erupted in Egypt after a video circulated on social media, captured by a surveillance camera, showing an employee at an orphanage in Shebin El Kom, Menoufia, attacking a child with disabilities who is an orphan from the institution. The video recorded in restroom facilities shows the child sustaining injuries and bleeding from the mouth and nose due to the brutal attack by the employee.
Imam Fawzy, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Menoufia, confirmed that the incident of the attack on the child inside Dar Al-Amal in Shebin El Kom is accurate, stressing that the incident is "unacceptable in all forms and matters." He emphasized that the management of the orphanage has taken all necessary legal actions regarding the incident and has filed a report with the police.
Fawzy stated in an official announcement that one of the drivers had assaulted the child because the latter had pulled down his pants in front of the supervisors, clarifying that the child suffers from intellectual and cognitive delays, but the incident is "unacceptable in all forms and matters." He noted that the orphanage has decided to deduct a third of the driver’s salary involved in the incident and issue a warning of dismissal.
