Children's Excessive Sugar Intake Poses Colon Cancer Risk

The German Association of Pediatricians has warned that children's products and fruit juices contain a lot of sugar, particularly fructose, which may affect gut health. German doctors added that consuming large amounts of sugar impacts children's weight and dental health, in addition to potentially increasing the risk of colon cancer in adulthood. The association emphasized the link between fructose and sugary drinks with what is known as adenomatous polyps in the intestines, especially in the large intestine, which can develop into cancer. Therefore, doctors advised limiting sugar consumption during childhood. The German Nutrition Society recommended not getting children used to consuming high amounts of sugar in the form of processed foods, which are advertised and contain high levels of fructose. German nutrition experts noted that daily caloric intake from sugar should not exceed 5% for children aged two, and for children aged 10 to 13, who require 1,900 calories a day, the maximum from sugar should be 95 calories, equivalent to less than 25 grams or less than five teaspoons of sugar daily.
