UN Mission in Libya Expresses Concern for Arbitrarily Detained Girl

The United Nations Mission in Libya expressed its "serious concern" for the safety of a Libyan girl named Widad Ismail Al-Sharqi.

A recent statement from the mission clarified that the young Libyan, Widad Ismail Al-Sharqi, was arbitrarily detained outside the Zawiya Court, west of Tripoli, on January 31, by an armed group. Her family has lost contact with her since February 2. The UN mission's statement called for her immediate and unconditional release. It emphasized that this incident "seriously undermines the rule of law and human rights in Libya." The UN Support Mission in Libya urged a thorough investigation by the Attorney General and the prosecution of all perpetrators.
