The Departure of Child Rayan: Details of the Tragic Days

After 5 days of continuous digging, the Moroccan child Rayan emerged from the deep well lifeless, in news that shook and saddened the world. Everyone anxiously hoped with every development in the excavation process to bring 5-year-old Rayan out alive, but the outcome was tragic.

The story began on Tuesday when Rayan was playing near the deep well in a village in the Chefchaouen region of northern Morocco. Gradually, Rayan's story captured the attention of Moroccan society from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, then it transcended borders to reach the entire world.

There were initial attempts to rescue the child made by volunteers, but those efforts failed due to the narrowness of the well. On Wednesday, Moroccan authorities intervened in the digging operation, bringing in heavy machinery such as excavators and using cameras to monitor the state of the child trapped in the well at a depth of 32 meters. However, Wednesday ended without achieving a rescue of Rayan.

On Thursday, Rayan's family confirmed that their son was still alive, despite more than 50 hours having passed since the start of the digging. On this day, the Moroccan authorities intensified their search efforts by bringing in more excavators. The search was halted that day due to a rock collapse, but a team of surveyors got closer to the child’s location.

Friday marked the fourth day of the search, during which Moroccan authorities intensified their efforts, stating that rescue workers were just meters away from retrieving Rayan. This day distinguished itself with manual digging as the rescue teams approached the child at a depth of 32 meters underground. Although the digging was manual, it was paused for a period due to a rock collapse, and the authorities indicated that the excavation was complicated, warning that any collapse could endanger the child’s life.

On the fifth and final day, the excavation efforts reached their conclusion, and the authorities brought an ambulance and resuscitation specialists, stating that the distance separating the rescuers from Rayan was just a few centimeters.

The critical moment came on Saturday evening when rescue teams, led by a resuscitation specialist, managed to extract Rayan from the well. Despite the renewed hopes that this development brought, the authorities confirmed in an official statement that the child had already passed away before the rescuers reached him.
