House Judiciary Chairman Calls for Immediate Impeachment of Trump

U.S. House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler called for the immediate impeachment of President Donald Trump, whose term has ended.

Nadler stated in a press release: "I urge once again for the impeachment of the President and his removal from office. We have a limited timeframe to act, and the nation cannot endure a prolonged and lengthy process." He added that he supports directly forwarding the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had previously called for activating a constitutional provision to remove Trump. Pelosi said: "I call for the activation of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Trump," warning that if the 25th Amendment is not enacted, Congress must proceed with impeaching the President. She emphasized that President Trump encouraged an armed insurrection against the United States, adding that she joins the Senate Democratic leader in urging the Vice President to remove Trump through the 25th Amendment.

In this context, federal prosecutor Michael Sherwin, who is investigating the events at the Capitol, announced that investigations and charges would extend to Trump due to his remarks to a crowd of protesters just before they stormed the Capitol. Sherwin clarified that the charges would not only target those who stormed the Capitol but would also consider all individuals involved in the events.

Amnesty International accused Trump yesterday of inciting violence and intimidation by refusing to accept the results of the presidential election. The organization noted that he "embraced white supremacist groups and extremists and fueled the fires of violence and chaos."
