Mido Addresses Controversy Over Egypt vs Senegal Match Replay

The former Egyptian star and media figure Ahmed Hossam Mido spoke about the possibility of replaying the match between Egypt and Senegal during the decisive round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, emphasizing that there are no indicators for such an event and that fans' emotions should not be manipulated. Mido stated in his remarks on the program "Al-Rimontada" on Al-Mihwar Channel: "What Farag Amer, the former president of Smouha, wrote about replaying the Egypt-Senegal match is not confirmed. Engineer Farag Amer makes me feel he is close to Infantino, the president of FIFA, after he wrote that the Egypt-Senegal match will be replayed." He continued: "This talk has no basis in truth; the match will not be replayed, folks, and if there are penalties, it will just be a fine for Senegal. Do not give people hope about replaying the Egypt-Senegal match; the match will not be replayed. Forget about this story."

The Egyptian Football Association is consulting with several global football stars who sympathized with the Egyptian team, including captain Mohamed Salah, due to the excessive laser beams that affected him during the penalty shootout, as well as Ahmed Sayed Zizo and Mostafa Mohamed. Among those who sympathized with the Egyptian national team and Salah is Thomas Müller, the captain of Bayern Munich and the German national team. Müller commented on a photo published by "Sports Illustrated," showing Senegal fans directing numerous lasers at Mohamed Salah's face during his penalty shot at the end of the match, stating via his official Twitter account: "Please play fair first."

In a related context, Walid Attar, the spokesperson for the Football Association, confirmed that the board's decision would be to escalate to the International Sports Court if FIFA’s disciplinary committee's decision does not align with Egypt's complaint against Senegal regarding the unfortunate events that occurred during the match, including fan misconduct in the final qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Attar added that the Football Association has not received official letters from any body regarding the Egypt-Senegal match, noting that everything being raised is mere speculation.

The spokesman also mentioned that he keeps in constant contact with FIFA’s disciplinary committee to find out when a meeting would take place to decide on the complaint submitted by the Egyptian Football Association against Senegal, indicating that no one has informed them of anything thus far.

In another matter, Ahmed Hossam Mido sent a message to Mohamed Elneny, the Arsenal player, praising his impressive performance against Manchester United, saying: "Elneny is a hero and shone in Arsenal's last two league matches, which confirms that the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, the former national team coach, was unfair to Elneny due to his playing style that did not liberate the player." He concluded his remarks by stating: "Arteta is proud of Elneny and has set an example of professionalism despite being a substitute in many matches; nevertheless, he trained well. If Elneny wants to be utilized properly, he needs to have two players on the perimeter because Elneny always knows how to create space."
