Video: Player Brutally Headbutts Opponent, Nearly Costing Him His Eye

In a match in the Scottish amateur football league, a player suffered a severe injury after being headbutted by a rival player, nearly losing one of his eyes. George Robinson, 32, from the Steinhousmuir team, received a serious blow to his eye during a clash with the FC East Kilbride team, about 15 minutes before the end of regular time, with the score at that moment indicating Steinhousmuir leading 3-1.

A short video footage showed the midfielder struggling to obtain the ball from two players before being headbutted by one of them. Despite furious protests from his teammates and those on the bench, the game continued for a few moments before the referee stopped play.

Robinson, who was playing only his second match with Steinhousmuir, was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment, where he was reportedly told that he "might lose" his eye, according to the dailyrecord newspaper. Robinson expressed his disappointment after learning that no action would be taken by the police, despite video evidence of the incident. "Officials at the Scottish Football Association told me that the referee did not see the incident, and they do not accept video evidence for amateur games," he said.

The newspaper reported that the police stance on the incident was clear, stating that it occurred during a football match and that it is the responsibility of the local football association, so they would not be able to intervene. Robinson commented on this: "I’m not the type to complain, but I think it’s disgraceful. It sets a dangerous precedent, suggesting that during play you can do whatever you want.”

He added, “I sustained a serious injury, which had psychological repercussions due to the fear of losing my eye. I stopped playing, but the man who did this to me returned to playing football without any punishment." He concluded, “Any player is punished for just arguing with referees or merely pushing an opponent, but what happened to me was an assault that went unpunished. All I ask for is justice.”

According to the newspaper, Robinson works as a technical supervisor at a shopping center and has taken a sick leave for three weeks, though he is unsure if he will return to the field again.
