El-Manfi Arrives in Sebha for Meetings with Southern Components

The new President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed El-Manfi, has arrived in the city of Sebha to hold a series of meetings with political, military, and community components of the south.

The media office of the President of the Presidential Council noted that this is El-Manfi’s first visit to Sebha since his selection by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum on February 5. He is accompanied on his tour of the south by his deputies, Ali Laafi and Musa Al-Koni.

It is also mentioned that El-Manfi previously visited the cities of Benghazi, Al-Bayda, and Tobruk in eastern Libya before settling in the capital, Tripoli, on February 16. This comes amid ongoing efforts to form a national unity government led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.

On Thursday, Dbeibeh presented the proposed government lineup to the House of Representatives, explaining that the principle of consultation with members of the Political Dialogue Committee, members of the House of Representatives, and the High Council of State was adopted.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, which convenes in Tobruk, Aguila Saleh, called for the House of Representatives to meet in the city of Sirte on March 8 to discuss granting confidence to the upcoming government. He stated that the quorum would be achieved in the session, and the priority for holding the session would be in Sirte, which is free from militias and extremist groups, as he expressed.

Meanwhile, the head of the "Libyan Joint Military Commission," Ahmed Abu Shamma, issued a statement on Saturday, announcing that the Commission does not have the necessary power to protect the convening of the House of Representatives in the city of Sirte. Abu Shamma considered that the foreign presence in Sirte hinders the session of the House of Representatives to approve the proposed government lineup from the new unified authority.
