Death of Egyptian Artist Ahmed Halawa Due to COVID-19 Complications

The Egyptian Actors' Syndicate announced today, Friday, that artist Ahmed Halawa passed away at the age of 73, affected by complications from COVID-19. Halawa was hospitalized last month for treatment of the virus, but his health deteriorated in the last two days.

Born in January 1949, Halawa had a passion for acting from childhood, and school theater was his initial gateway to the world of art. He studied engineering but insisted on pursuing academics in the arts, earning a Bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and a PhD in Philosophy of Arts from Romania.

In addition to acting, he excelled in theatrical directing, puppet design and manipulation, and sculpture. He founded the Halawa Science and Arts Complex, specializing in applied arts such as glass painting, decoupage, embroidery, and mosaic.

His plays included "Kalam Faraq," "Kobri Al-Namous," "Isis," "Caligula," "Shaqlabaz," "Dustour Ya Asidna," and "Tora'ee'u." He participated in films such as "Al-Ithab Imra’a," "Shayatin Al-Madina," "Aqwa Al-Rijal," "Al-Ayal Harbat," "Amn Dawlat," "Rad Fi’l," "Al-Haram Al-Rabi," "Samaka wa Sinara," "Bekia," "Al-Rajul Al-Akhtar," and "Tw’am Rouhi."

He appeared in television series such as "Dumu’a Fi Oyoun Waqi’ha," "Ra’fat Al-Hagan," "Al-Thaalab," "Ayam Al-Munira," "Harun Al-Rashid," "Al-Lis wa Al-Kitab," "Ahil Cairo," "Nelly and Sherihan," "Al-Wasiyya," "Oila Zizo," "Al-Ab Al-Ruhy," "Hajma Martida," and "Al-Ikhteyar 2."

He was present in all of Adel Imam's recent series, including "Farqat Najy Attallah," "Al-A’raf," "Sahib Al-Sa’ada," "Ustaz wa Ra’ees Qism," and "Afaret Adli Al-Alam."

In parallel with his artistic career, he pursued an academic teaching path, serving as a professor in the acting department at the Academy of Arts. He taught theater in specialized education colleges, contributed to establishing the theater department at Helwan University, and offered acting lessons for amateurs on his personal YouTube channel.
