FC Barcelona announced today, Wednesday, that they have signed Gabonese international striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang until 2025, joining from English club Arsenal. The Catalan club stated, "Barcelona and Aubameyang have reached an agreement for the player to join the club after the striker completed the termination of his contract with Arsenal." It added, "The player will sign a contract until June 2025, with the option to agree to his departure on June 30, 2023, and the buyout clause set at 100 million euros."
The official announcement regarding Barcelona's acquisition of the 32-year-old came after the closure of the winter transfer window on Monday evening, as he was released from his contract with Arsenal, which announced the termination of its relationship with the Gabonese international on Tuesday. Aubameyang arrived in Spain last Monday before the closing of the winter transfer window; however, Barcelona did not announce any deal before the deadline, awaiting the official termination of the Gabonese striker's contract with Arsenal.
Aubameyang had fallen out of favor with Arsenal and coach Mikel Arteta, who stripped the Gabonese of the captaincy and excluded him from the team since mid-December for disciplinary reasons. According to reports, Aubameyang was one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League, with a weekly salary of £250,000.
