The Zamzam Water Administration at the Grand Mosque distributed 8 million single-use 200 ml Zamzam water bottles to visitors during the first half of the current Hijri year. Additionally, 38 million liters of Zamzam water were distributed through 5,221 Zamzam containers and 30 carts designated for the Tawaf pathways. The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has recently introduced several robots dedicated to distributing Zamzam water to visitors of the holy sites, as part of its efforts to enhance the service system at the Grand Mosque through ongoing governance of field service organization and provision, adhering to global service excellence standards and development plans aimed at improving the service system in the Grand Mosque while aligning with the initiative "How can we be role models in the digital world."
The Zamzam distribution robot, which distributes 30 bottles per round, has received a patent and incorporates quick battery charging capabilities that save energy, operating for 5-8 hours without human intervention, representing a significant advancement in the history of Zamzam water provision during the global pandemic. The robot is equipped with upper and lower cameras and laser sensors to conduct a comprehensive scan of its surroundings to avoid all types of obstacles.
The presidency continues to develop the Zamzam water delivery system for pilgrims, including plans to establish automated filling stations according to global specifications at the Grand Mosque, launching a new electronic station for washing, disinfecting, and drying containers, and incorporating smart technology within the containers to measure water levels and temperature. Additionally, there are ongoing studies into the use of robots and artificial intelligence in the distribution of Zamzam water bottles within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards.
Abdulrahman Al-Zahrani, the Director of the Zamzam Water Administration at the Grand Mosque, stated that the Zamzam service employs 140 staff members overseeing more than 1,000 workers stationed around the Grand Mosque 24/7. Their responsibilities include preparing and equipping the Zamzam service for worshippers, monitoring operations, supervising the preparation of Zamzam water, conducting field inspections at distribution sites to ensure their readiness, and maintaining the cleanliness of the containers, in addition to overseeing the filling of the containers.
