Internationalization Poses an Existential Danger to Lebanon

Lebanese MP Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the "Loyalty to the Resistance" bloc, stated on Sunday, the 28th, that internationalization poses an existential risk to Lebanon.

According to the Lebanese "Nashra," Fadlallah remarked that the party believes internationalization is a threat to Lebanon, questioning, "What has internationalization done in Syria, Libya, and Iraq?" He added, "Those who want to stick to the Taif Agreement should not invite foreign countries to Lebanon to solve our crisis, especially since these countries have no time for anyone, and the solution must start from within."

Fadlallah affirmed that "for us, insults and abuses are the result of impotence and weakness, as they lack evidence and argument, and we expected a different attitude concerning what happened in Bakirkh yesterday," asserting that there are those who seek refuge behind Bakirkh. He continued, "We respect the position of Bakirkh for a portion of the Lebanese, and we do not want any division among the Lebanese. There are those who tried to exploit Bakirkh to entrench sectarian division, but the question today is, 'If we cannot agree internally, do we surrender ourselves to the outside?'"

He noted that since 1948, Israel has not diverted them from wars and crises, nor has ISIS done so. He emphasized that "our policy is based on engagement and discussion, not isolation. We have our evidence and arguments, and communication with Bakirkh has not ceased. There was direct communication until the Corona phase, and today there is a phone communication. Two days before what happened yesterday in Bakirkh, there was direct contact from the Hezbollah leadership."

These statements came in response to a speech by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Raia on Saturday evening, where he called for an international conference regarding Lebanon. The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Raia, stated, "We demanded a special international conference for Lebanon, as we have confirmed that everything proposed has been rejected resulting in chaos and the collapse of the state, with a takeover of the reins of power." He further mentioned from Bakirkh that the country is facing an insurrectionary situation in every sense of the word, which was the first revolt against the National Accord Document.
