Berri Monitors Environmental Disaster on Lebanese Coast... Renews Call to File Complaint Against Israel

President Berri made a phone call to the Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, General Mohammad Khair, requesting expeditious assessment of the damages to the shore and the fishermen and their livelihoods, and to determine the extent of the losses they have incurred in preparation for compensating those affected.

During his follow-up on the environmental disaster impacting the Lebanese coast from Naqoura to Beirut due to the Israeli oil spill, President Berri contacted the President of the National Council for Scientific Research, Dr. Moein Hamza, to learn about the progress of the work supervised by the council, whether it is to assess the damages or in terms of determining the extent of pollution and its effects on the shore and fishery resources. President Berri praised the efforts of volunteers from environmental associations and scouting clubs to eradicate the effects of the Israeli environmental aggression, particularly the efforts of volunteers from the Islamic Message Scouts Association, expressing astonishment at the unjustified absence of the Ministry of Environment in response to this national disaster. The Speaker of the Parliament reiterated the necessity for Lebanon to file a complaint before the United Nations and relevant international organizations against Israel, holding it accountable for the responsibilities and consequences resulting from this environmental crime that threatens the Lebanese coast and Mediterranean shores.

On another note, President Berri received the Minister of Finance in the caretaker government, Dr. Ghazi Wazni, at the second presidential office in Ain al-Tineh, where they discussed the general situation, especially the financial situation. He also addressed the latest developments and political conditions in Lebanon and the region during his meeting with former MP Nasser Qandil.
