Gulf Arab League: Fans Return with New Conditions

Fans of the Gulf Arab League clubs expressed their happiness with the football federation's decision to allow spectators back into stadiums, starting with the final match of the President's Cup, which will feature Al Ahli Youth and Al Nasr on May 16 at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain. This marks the end of a long 13-month absence from the stands since March 2020. Fans described the decision as a positive step that will have beneficial effects on local competitions in terms of technical, moral, and psychological aspects, as well as for the fans themselves, who have been deprived of attending for prolonged periods due to the current health conditions.

The football federation announced this decision in an official statement, following coordination with the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and the Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Committee related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Abu Dhabi.

They told "Emirates Today" that this decision is a positive sign of the beginning of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and they will adhere to all eight conditions set by the football federation and relevant authorities for everyone's safety and to prevent the spread of the virus.

The eight conditions for allowing fans back into stadiums include:

1. Attendance should not exceed 30% of the stadium's capacity.

2. Only those with a star from clinical trials for the COVID-19 vaccine are allowed.

3. Attendance is permitted for those showing "E" status in the Al Hosn app.

4. Presenting a negative PCR test result no older than 48 hours.

5. Compliance with health and safety guidelines and physical distancing.

6. Wearing masks at all times.

7. Leaving seats is only allowed for necessity.

8. Entry is prohibited for those under 16 years of age.

Sami Al-Hamour, former fan affairs coordinator for the football federation, stated that “the return of the audience brings joy to all UAE fans, as they have been eagerly awaiting such a step after a long absence from the stands due to the COVID-19 pandemic.” He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, president of the football federation, and Mohammad Hazzam Al Dhaheri, the secretary-general, for this decision, hoping it would herald the return of fans for expected national team matches in the World Cup qualifiers scheduled to be held in the UAE in June.

Hareez Al-Menhali, president of Bani Yas Fans Council, also shared immense joy regarding the decision, emphasizing the importance of fan presence in providing the thrill of matches, and underscoring the necessity for fans to follow the health and safety precautions to ensure everyone's safety.

Hamad Al-Hosani, a prominent figure from Al Wahda, also noted that the announcement of fans returning brought joy to all UAE supporters, wishing that this decision signifies a return of fans to the league stands next season in a certain capacity, aligned with the safety protocols to ensure everyone's safety. He added, “The presence of fans at the final of such a precious tournament, like the President's Cup, will provide a very special vibe to the event.”
