Strong Explosions in Western Iran with Unknown Causes

Powerful explosions were heard in several cities in western Iran early on Sunday, with their nature still unknown. The explosions were reported in Sanandaj, Dehloran, Kamyaran, Hamadan, Kermanshah, Javanrud, and other Iranian cities, according to information from Al Arabiya/Al Hadath. It was noted that "the intensity of the sound in some areas shook doors and windows of homes, causing people to leave their houses," as reported by the Iranian news site Rokna and its Telegram channel.

A "terrifying sound" was confirmed by the governor of Asadabad, who stated that while a "terrifying sound" was heard, its source remains unclear, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency. He also mentioned that initially, there was a belief that the sound was due to thunderstorms caused by weather conditions, but this possibility was dismissed.

In parallel, videos shared by activists on Twitter depicted explosions that appeared to be from anti-aircraft artillery. It is noteworthy that the country has experienced several similar incidents in recent months. During that time, authorities reported that the Iranian military was conducting unannounced air defense drills amid rising tensions with Israel and the United States.

Tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv have escalated recently, coinciding with the West resuming discussions with Iran about its nuclear program, a step that Israel has repeatedly criticized, asserting that any agreement reached does not necessarily bind it. Additionally, the two countries exchanged accusations recently over cyber operations and targeting ships at sea. Tehran has repeatedly pointed fingers at Israeli authorities for targeting some of its nuclear facilities, the most prominent of which is Natanz.
