Coronavirus Curve Rising Sharply in Saudi Arabia

The spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday that the epidemiological curve of COVID-19 in the country is experiencing a significant upward acceleration. Dr. Mohammed Al-Abd Al-Aali stated in a press conference about the developments of the virus that previous waves of COVID-19 went through several stages, but the latest wave is "unquestionably the highest." He added that the epidemiological curve in the Kingdom is recording a wave that coincides with the global wave around us, with a high acceleration in just four days, and we expect an increase in this rise.

He indicated that the number of cases requiring health care and admission to intensive care "mostly involves cases that did not complete their vaccination doses." This comes alongside a rise in infection cases within the Kingdom, as the Ministry of Health reported today an increase in COVID-19 cases with 1,024 new infections, 298 recoveries, and one death reported.

Previously, the Ministry of Health announced a reduction in the time frame for receiving the booster shot to three months from the date of vaccination with the second dose. The booster shot is currently important for protection against complications and variants. Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce announced last December, via its Twitter account, that the booster dose of the COVID-19 virus will be a requirement for maintaining an immune status and entering markets, centers, and commercial facilities starting from the first month of February 2022.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Interior announced two days ago the re-commitment to wearing masks and implementing distancing measures in all places (closed and open), as well as activities and events, starting from the morning of Thursday, December 30, 2021, according to the Saudi news agency "WAS".
