FIFA Shocks Egyptians by Confirming Result of Egypt vs. Senegal Match

A member of the Disciplinary Committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) confirmed that the committee has approved the result of the World Cup 2022 qualifying match between Egypt and Senegal, which took place on March 29. The website "Sada Elbalad" quoted the FIFA Disciplinary Committee member as saying that the result of the second leg match was confirmed, leading to Senegal's qualification for the World Cup 2022.

Additionally, the disciplinary committee decided to impose a ban on Senegal's team from having fans for 3 to 5 matches, along with a financial penalty on the Senegalese Football Federation due to the crowd disturbances that occurred during the second leg match.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Football Association, headed by Jamal Al-Khattab, submitted an official complaint to FIFA requesting that Egypt be granted qualification to the World Cup in place of Senegal due to the disturbances that happened before, during, and after the return match.

The Egyptian Football Association based its complaint on an incident where a Senegalese individual attempted to assault the Egyptian team captain Mohamed Salah in the hotel, the delay of the Senegalese team's bus in arriving at the "Diamniadio" stadium, which hosted the return match, and the inadequate warm-up time for the Egyptian team.

The complaint also included disturbances caused by Senegalese fans to Egypt's national anthem before the match, racist banners against Mohamed Salah, throwing water bottles on the field leading to Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy's fall in the first half, shining lasers in the faces of the Egyptian team during penalty shootouts which affected their focus, resulting in them missing 3 out of 4 penalties, and an assault on Mohamed Salah after the match.

### Potential Escalation

Jamal Al-Khattab, the head of the Football Association, previously stated that the governing body will escalate the complaint to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if FIFA rejects the submitted protest.

Senegal qualified for the Qatar World Cup 2022 after beating Egypt in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 tie on aggregate over the two matches. The draw for the 2022 World Cup placed Senegal in Group A alongside Qatar, the Netherlands, and Ecuador.
