The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has issued a decision regarding the organization of emergency work within the Ministry, the Lebanese University, and the Educational Center for Research and Development during the first phase of the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions.
As reported by the National News Agency, the Ministry issued decision number 23/l/2021, concerning the organization of emergency work from Monday morning, February 8, 2021, until Monday morning, February 22, 2021. The decision includes the continuation of emergency work considered critically necessary in the general directorates of the Ministry and the Educational Center in central administrations and administrative units in the provinces, during the specified phase, with 20% attendance from employees on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. The Tuesday falling on February 9, 2021, which coincides with the Feast of St. Maroun, will be replaced by Wednesday, February 10, 2021, based on a list prepared by the heads of the relevant units with the names of the designated employees, to be signed by the relevant director general or the head of the Educational Center for Research and Development.
In the Lebanese University, emergency work specified by the University President will continue, also with a 20% attendance rate based on a list signed by the University President.
The decision allows directors of public educational institutions and one supervisor and administrative worker (a maximum of three people) from each to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly to complete necessary administrative and financial tasks. The Tuesday of February 9, 2021, will likewise be replaced by Wednesday, February 10, 2021, based on an approved list of names presented to security institutions as needed.
Directors of private educational institutions and a number of administrative and accounting officials (not exceeding 20% of the educational institution's administrative team) are permitted to attend during official hours starting Wednesday, February 10, 2021, based on a list sent to the ministry for signature by the relevant director general.
The Ministry requested that citizens, when necessary to address an urgent matter at the Ministry, contact during official hours at the number 772000/01 to schedule an appointment or send an email to Contactus@mehe.gov.lb.
Employees required to attend during this period must adhere to all necessary COVID-19 preventive measures and public safety requirements. The decision responds to Circular No. 96/M.S., dated February 6, 2021, regarding the update of the strategy to confront COVID-19 and the phases of gradual easing of lockdown, to ensure the essential operations of the Ministry as outlined in the attached table with the mentioned circular at a staffing level of 20%, along with the requirement for employees to possess a travel permit from the Minister and an identification card.
