Earthquake in Cyprus Felt by Residents of Coastal Areas

An earthquake struck the island of Cyprus and was felt by residents in some coastal provinces of Syria and Lebanon.

The Syrian news agency Sana reported that the earthquake affected areas in Syria, where residents felt it in the provinces of Latakia, Homs, Tartus, and Damascus. Sana published a statement from the National Earthquake Center in the Syrian Ministry of Oil, which clarified that the national seismic monitoring network recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10 km at 16:27 in the island of Cyprus, felt by residents in the coastal areas of Latakia, Tartus, and Beirut. The European Earthquake Observatory also noted that the earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, affecting residents of Latakia, Homs, Tartus, and Damascus. The Mediterranean region and Turkey have recently experienced seismic activity, the latest being an earthquake measuring 4.1 in Elazig province in eastern Turkey.
