Mohamed Abou Jabal, the goalkeeper for the Egyptian national team, has asserted that he refuses to comment on the recent statements made by his Algerian wife, Samara Yahya, in order to avoid inciting discord between the peoples of Egypt and Algeria. The Egyptian newspaper "Al-Masry Al-Youm" quoted a source close to the goalkeeper stating that "Abou Jabal rejects any comments regarding this matter, as the ongoing uproar aims to create enmity between the people of Egypt and Algeria."
The public disagreements and exchanges between the couple have dominated social media in both Algeria and Egypt, especially after Samara's remarks following his comments about their divorce: "I am a free Algerian, and I thought he was much smarter!"
Samara Yahya made incendiary comments following her husband Abou Jabal's vague remarks about their divorce, which sparked widespread debate on social media platforms. The princess Samara stated that she is a free Algerian and had expected her husband to respond much more intelligently after he answered in a televised program about his marital status, whether he was married or divorced.
Yahya said: "For a while, I have kept this matter to myself and held my anger in my heart, because firstly, it is a personal issue, and secondly, I am not the kind of person who exploits problems to become a 'trend', and thirdly, out of respect for both families."
She added: "Unfortunately, the other party's way of thinking was different from mine. I expected a much smarter answer than that, and a better way of handling it."
Yahya pointed out that "there is no channel or newspaper that has not contacted her" for a comment, emphasizing that she "chose to remain silent because homes have secrets."
She continued: "Thank God I have enough awareness and responsibility not to speak on the subject, until it ends in a way that God sees as good for us. However, since the matter has escalated beyond its limit and caused harm to me and to those who love me, I would like to ask you something, as a favor and not as an order — I am your sister — to close this issue today and let creation be with the Creator."
She further stated: "There is a lot on my mind in response to the statements and false rumors, and to the people who exploited the situation and hurt me, but there will come a time when it is suitable to speak."
The wife of the Egyptian national team's goalkeeper, who is Algerian, has topped trends several times during the African Cup of Nations matches, and sources have indicated that they are divorced despite her cheering for the Egyptian team. Former Miss Algeria Samara Yahya and her husband "Abou Jabal" stirred up extensive debate across various networks following the Egyptian team's loss in the African Cup of Nations final, after they unfollowed each other on Instagram and deleted all photos together.
