China has imposed sanctions on 28 U.S. individuals and officials, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
According to a statement from the Chinese government reported by Russia Today, the Chinese government is firmly committed to defending the country's national sovereignty, security, and developmental interests. The statement indicated that the Chinese government decided to punish 28 individuals who severely violated China's sovereignty and were primarily responsible for such U.S. actions concerning China, including Mike Pompeo and several officials from former President Donald Trump's administration, as well as John Bolton and Stephen Bannon.
The statement emphasized that over the past few years, some anti-China politicians in the U.S., driven by their selfish political interests, biases, and hatred against China, have planned, promoted, and executed a series of reckless actions that severely interfered in our internal affairs and undermined our interests, without regard for the interests of the Chinese and American peoples.
According to these new Chinese sanctions, these individuals and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. They and the companies and institutions associated with them are also banned from engaging with China.
The United States had imposed several sanctions on Chinese companies during former President Donald Trump's administration, the latest of which targeted Xiaomi, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, placing it on a blacklist due to alleged military ties just days before the end of his term.
