Statement from the Army Command Regarding the Referral of Detainees to the Public Prosecution and Training Exercises in Several Lebanese Areas

The Army Command issued a statement regarding the referral of detainees to the public prosecution on charges of forming an armed gang involved in theft and robbery.

The National News Agency reported this evening, citing the Army Command's Directorate of Orientation, that on 10/2/2021, the Intelligence Directorate referred detainees (H.A.), (A.A.), (M.M.), and (M.S.) to the public prosecution. They, along with the wanted fugitive (H.F.), form an armed gang that conducts armed robberies and thefts. The statement clarified that they had been arrested on 3/2/2021 in the Shmeis neighborhood of Baalbek inside a stolen car driven by one of the detainees, where military weapons, ammunition, grenades, military equipment, and a quantity of drugs were found. Two of them had opened fire at the patrol members of the Intelligence Directorate during the attempt to apprehend them. The statement also mentioned that there are several judicial follow-ups against (H.A.) for crimes involving the trade and possession of military weapons, vehicle theft, armed robbery, firing guns, rocket shells, and attempted murder.

In a different context, the Army Command's Directorate of Orientation issued a statement regarding the army units conducting live-fire training exercises in several Lebanese areas. The statement indicated that a unit of the army will carry out training exercises starting from 10/2/2021 until 28/2/2021 between the hours of 8:00 and 24:00 daily, in the regions of Akkoura, Afaq, and Lakkoul, as well as in the Rteiba training field, including live-fire drills using medium and heavy weapons and explosives.

Additionally, another unit of the army will conduct training exercises at sea off the shore of Anfeh in the north on 10/2/2021 from 6:00 until completion, including live-fire drills. Therefore, the Army Command urges citizens and owners of fishing and recreational boats not to approach the training area during the specified times and locations mentioned above.

Moreover, the Air Force will conduct aerial firing on 10 and 11/2/2021 between 07:30 and 14:30 each day, at the Khanoush firing range in Hamatt, using machine guns. A unit of the army will also carry out training exercises on the dates of 1, 4, 15, and 19/2/2021 from 8:00 until 16:00 at the Tripoli training camp, involving the use of live and blank ammunition with light and medium weapons.

The statement also added that army units will conduct training exercises starting from 31/1/2021 until 26/2/2021 from 7:00 until completion in training fields: Khanoush - Hamatt, Polonia, Brumana - Al-Ayoun, Ain Sada, Hariri Complex - Kfar Falous, and Zahrani facilities, involving the use of blank and live ammunition with light and medium weapons. The Army Command urges citizens and owners of fishing and recreational boats not to approach the training area during the specified times and locations mentioned above.

The statement further mentioned that a unit of the army, starting from 1/2/2021 until 1/3/2021, will conduct day and night training exercises in the areas of Hadath Jbeil, Dyman, Hasroun, Jabal Al-Arouba, Al-Qamoua, Wadi Khaled, Akroum, Jabal Al-Malah, Ras Masqaa, Koura, Jurd Al-Dinniyeh, Bsharri, and Ehden - North, involving live and blank ammunition firing.

The statement concluded with information that from 18/1/2021 until 18/2/2021, a unit of the army will conduct day and night training exercises at the Tripoli training camp, involving live and blank firing and the use of explosives, sound grenades, and smoke grenades.
