The head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed that "from the beginning, our position has been clear, and after the situation in the country has reached what it has, it is certain that President Michel Aoun should resign. However, we must proceed to early parliamentary elections, and then the new council will elect a new president."
In a radio interview, he stated, "For a long time, Bkerke has been the rock of Lebanon, and for the past 100 years, Bkerke has not let down the Lebanese. The patriarch has exhausted all he has to convince the officials to stop the decline, but 'nothing has come of it.' He added, 'No one has ever threatened Bkerke, and all talk about this subject is empty bravado.'"
Regarding the government formation file, Geagea said, "Either we continue in this manner, meaning without a government, or if a government is formed, things will remain as they are. Thus, anyone waiting for the government is waiting for a mirage." He continued, "The team of the President resorts to playing the sectarian card because they have lost everything. What Christian rights are they talking about? The President was elected on the basis of being a strong president, and the rights of Christians constitute the establishment of a strong state in Lebanon. So where is the strong state now?"
He pointed out that time does not permit working towards minister Gebran Bassil's presidency; the problem is not with powers or Christian rights; the actual problem today lies in effective governance. He stressed that "the only solution to get out of this crisis is through early parliamentary elections. Every day, the decline is upon us, and some are preoccupied with talking about Christian rights."
