Syria condemned in the strongest terms the American aggression on areas in Deir ez-Zor near the Syrian-Iraqi border last night, considering it a message of American disregard for the role of international legitimacy in resolving the crisis in Syria, especially with the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General's special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, in Damascus.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic affirming that the US warplanes committed a cowardly and blatant aggression by bombing areas in Deir ez-Zor province near the common Syrian-Iraqi border on the evening of Thursday, February 25, 2021, in a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that this event represents an American message showing contempt for the role of international legitimacy in resolving the crisis in Syria, referring to the timing of the American aggression, coinciding with the presence of the UN envoy in Damascus. The ministry clarified that this overt aggression is a new link in a series of repeated attacks by the Israeli occupation forces, the so-called "international coalition," Turkish occupation, and crimes committed by armed terrorist organizations against the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, under flimsy pretexts or embarrassing justifications that American officials brazenly flaunt from their platforms in Washington, forgetting their previous terrorist aggressions that led to the deaths of hundreds of innocent Syrians, as acknowledged by the US Army command and other countries, while ignoring that these aggressions will only lead to chaos, destruction of Syrian infrastructure, and increased tension and explosions in the region and the world, which directly serves armed terrorist organizations, foremost among them "ISIS" and the terrorist "Al-Nusra Front," which the American occupiers work to secure all the supplies necessary for their continued existence, justifying their occupation of parts of the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic in a manner that violates international law, the UN Charter, human rights covenants, and all UN Security Council resolutions related to Syria, all of which condemn terrorism and respect the sovereignty, independence, the territorial integrity, and the regional unity of Syria.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated: The Syrian Arab Republic condemns the American aggression on its sovereignty in the strongest terms, which contradicts international law and the UN Charter, as well as its role as a permanent member of the Security Council concerned with preserving international peace and security. It warns that this aggression will lead to consequences that could escalate the situation in the region and constitutes a negative indication of the policies of the new American administration, which is supposed to adhere to international legitimacy, not the law of the jungle that the previous American administration followed in dealing with regional and international crises.
The ministry continued: The Syrian Arab Republic demands that the United States change its aggressive approach towards it and cease its aggression against its sovereignty and the various forms of support provided to armed terrorist organizations targeting Syria, its state, its people, and its infrastructure, and to stop continuing to invest in it, which was recently reflected in the actions of its forces transferring hundreds of ISIS terrorists from the prisons controlled by the "SDF" militia in Al-Hasakah province to its base in Al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border. It also demands that the U.S. refrain from creating chaos by inflaming situations and conflicts and attempting to prolong the crisis and obstruct a solution for it.
It added: The government of the Syrian Arab Republic reaffirms its determination to restore every grain of soil from the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic and liberate it from occupation and the scourge of terrorism and to rebuild what has been destroyed by terrorists and their sponsors. This determination includes recovering the lands currently controlled by the separatist terrorist militias known as the "SDF" and the occupied Syrian Golan up to the lines of June 4, 1967.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates concluded its statement by calling once again for the Security Council to bear its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, to take immediate action to stop a permanent member from continuing its aggression and crimes against a sovereign state and founding member of the UN, and to prevent the repetition of such aggressive policies. It also reiterated its call to the council to end the Israeli, American, and Turkish occupation of the Arab Syrian lands and to prevent these occupiers from implementing their plans aimed at undermining the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
