Under the title "Arrests Campaign in Ahvaz and Protests Against Khamenei in Tehran", Al-Arabiya reported that Iranian authorities arrested several Ahvaz activists during a demonstration on the banks of the Karun River, protesting against water transfer policies from the province. Security forces attacked the protesters who held banners, apprehending a number of them, including two women.
A statement from the coordinating committee of the Ahvaz protest movement called for the release of the detainees, the restoration of internet access, and the assurance of the right to peaceful assembly. The statement also demanded the cessation of river water transfers, provision of water to villages suffering from drinking water shortages, and compensation for shepherds and farmers for their losses.
Hundreds of Iranians also took to the streets in the capital, Tehran, chanting anti-Khamenei slogans, with protesters calling for the Supreme Leader's ouster. Several demonstrators in Ahvaz, in southwest Iran, burned images of the Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei in the city center.
Various cities in Ahvaz are witnessing protests against the Iranian regime's policies in these areas, and the echoes of these protests have reached Tehran. It is noteworthy that the Ahvaz region has experienced widespread protests since July 15, during which at least nine protesters have been killed and hundreds have been arrested by Iranian security forces, according to international human rights organizations.
